Glitchmobz

Glitchmobz is a maze game where every wall is a suggestion. Drop bombs, blast your way to the exit, and keep your hearts away from the mobz that live in the corrupted system. The whole game is drawn in 8x8 ASCII glyphs on a simulated CRT, and it is free to play in your browser, on your phone or on your desktop.

Four levels of Glitchmobz: Demolition, Ratz Nest, Gruntz Pit and Kernel Panic

Meet the mobz

  • Wallratz chew through the walls and breed in them.
  • Weedgrower grows while you wait, one stem at a time.
  • Blocker is a wall that walks. It is harmless, but it is always in your way.
  • Gruntz wander, hop, and hunt you down once they notice you.
  • Brutez are the tough Gruntz. They take two bombs and hit for a whole heart.

Then there are the glitches crawling across the screen, and the matrix rain, where red means pain. And there is a mushroom. What could go wrong?

31 levels of handmade chaos

Every level is drawn by hand. Some give you two bodies to steer at once, some have no way back, and in some the long way round is the only way. Bombs are limited, and your own blasts hurt you too, so every wall you open is a choice.

When can I play?

Soon. The first chapter, five levels, comes out first. New levels follow every other week until all 31 are out, and every update gets a devlog here on spelagon.com.

Under the hood

Glitchmobz runs on SpelagonECS, a small TypeScript engine made for 2D browser games. The whole game, music and sound included, is a single HTML file of under 150 kB. There is no WebGL, no download and nothing to install.
